Meet therapist Micayla Cook, LMFT #160534
Micayla is Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with Janz Family Therapy. She attended California Baptist University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, with Marriage and Family Therapy option. Micayla’s approach uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-Centered theories to help you work toward creating change, healing, and wellness. Using her unique and dedicated background of both dance and psychology, Micayla has a passion for helping athletes and dancers optimize their mental strength and potential. Micayla is well aware of both the challenges and gifts that being an athlete and performer brings to our daily lives. During her time in graduate school, Micayla learned the positive correlations of dance and mental health, including studies that found an increased positive mood, well-being, body-image and quality of life when people were given dance movement opportunities (Koch Kunz, Lykou, & Cruz, 2014). As part of treatment planning, Micayla works with clients to assist them in making the most of their skills and talents to retain the joy and benefits gained from these activities for mental fitness. She also recognizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship in order to provide effective therapy and individualizes each treatment plan for every unique client. Micayla is also open to working with you if you’re in need of treatment support for depression, anxiety, mood disorders, relationships problems, and accepts children ages 5 and up, teens, individuals, couples, and families.
