LEAH EDWARDS, Associate Marriage & Family Therapist #97866, Under Supervision of Heather W. Janz, LMFT #94996

Leah worked as a Marriage Family and Child Therapist Intern at Marjaree Mason Center as a Co-facilitator for both male and female Batterer's Intervention Programs, as a Facilitator of SAFE and Support group therapy sessions, and provided individual adult and child therapy. Prior to that, Leah aslo worked as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with the Marjaree Mason Learning Center as a Facilitator for Anger Management classes. From 2017 - 2019 Leah worked in a full service partnership program teaching Anger Management and providing individual sessions and case management to a high risk population of clients with co-occurring diagnoses of mental health and addiction related issues.  Leah has served as a Chapter member of the Central San Joaquin Valley Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists on both the Marketing Committee and as former Advertising Manager. Leah's passion for working with families and individuals suffering from mental health issues began on a personal level, as she worked to link individuals to mental health services and grew to understand the enormous lack of understanding, empathy, and difficulties many with mental health conditions suffer when seeking out services from agency type settings. From 2010 - 2015 Leah worked within the TRiO program at the Community College, working students who were often first generation, low-income, or had disabilities and saw the enormous need for mental health support and resources to assist students in achieving their own educational goals. Leah has a passion for working and advocating for substance abuse recovery, human trafficking, transgender and sexual minorities, post traumatic stress disorder, the importance of mental health advocacy and victim empowerment to assist clients with achieving a healthy and successful life.

Heather Walker Janz, LMFT #94996

Heather Walker Janz manages and provides supervision for Janz Family Therapy Incorporated. Heather is from the Central Valley and graduated with a master's degree in science with an emphasis in marriage & family therapy from California State University, Los Angeles. She received her bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in human development from California State University, Stanislaus. Heather has served as President for the California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists, Central San Joaquin Valley Chapter and on the Board in other capacities. From 2014-2016 Heather worked for a non-profit in the central valley providing individualized therapy to children, adults and families struggling with the complexities of mental health disorders and social stressors. This included serving adolescents and young adults referred through the Juvenile Justice Center, hospital, and county mental health crisis centers. Heather also has experience teaching parenting and anger management classes for the DAZ Foundation in Los Angeles, and gained training at the CSULA Psychology Clinic during her practicum. Heather's passion for working with families originally began when she worked as a recreation leader in after-school programs and saw that children's ability to learn, play and grow was affected by problems within families, trauma, lack of resources, medical and mental health conditions. Counseling and therapy services have allowed Heather to help these families in deeper ways to achieve the change they need to be healthy and successful.
